Instruments: Personality test (NEO-FFI)

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

neo-ffiTo test our hypothesis that personality is an important factor that determines what workspace fits a person, we use a standard personality test: the NEO-FFI test by Hogrefe. This test is a short version (60 questions – takes about 15 minutes to administer) of the test developed by Paul T. Costa, Jr. and Robert R. McCrae. The NEO-FFI provides an indication on each of the “Big Five” personality factors: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. (more…)

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

weerberichtAs a low-threshold instrument to gather feedback and stimulate a team to reflect on their working practices, we ask them to send us their opinion by SMS. Communication is good, CommUnification is better

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

CommUnification is a design concept conceived to address the In Sync and In Touch challenges faced by nomadic and highly mobile workers.

The project is an initiative by five User-System Interaction students at the Eindhoven University of Technology: Wil Rijnen, Brian Pagán, Ying Li, Zhihui Zhang, and Natalia Gredina. It is based on interview findings that nomadic and highly mobile workers are challenged by such problems as communication fragmentation (across multiple channels) and disregard for time zone differences. Lessons learned: knowledge sharing in Rabobank Projective

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Two goals that are high on the agenda of Rabobank Netherlands are improving the effectiveness of knowledge sharing, and stimulating new ways of work. Via the “Unplugged” change program, Rabobank is exploring ways to improve and facilitate location and time independent ways of work. In this practical case we investigated how knowledge sharing can be stimulated and facilitated within a department of highly autonomous project management professionals. A leaflet describing the main lessons learned is available here (in Dutch).

Best practices: Wiki introduction strategy

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Sharing knowledge and collaboration across organisational boundaries is high on the agenda of Rabobank Unplugged. Valuable information from regional offices now sometimes remains unused, while at other times things are reinvented. RaboWiki, an interactive website that allows all Rabobank employees to share and discuss information, contributes to resolve this issue. This flyer (in Dutch) summarizes the steps in the wiki introduction strategy we applied at the Rabobank Knowledge and Information Centre (KIRA).

Results: Learning from paper to improve digital technology

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

For decades, the paperless office seems to be just around the corner. However, even with the advent of laptops, smartphones, and mobile working styles, the reality today is that in most offices paper is still everywhere. Instruments: “information overload” self assessments

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Information overload is often associated with uncertainty and work pressure resulting from the abundance of information people are confronted with during their daily work. Information overload therefore takes on the symptoms of work-related stress, something that one person is simply more prone to than another. When this form of stress develops, the strengths and weaknesses of your personality and your personal work style play a key role. These three self assessments (interactive MS Excel sheets) are designed to examine these aspects in detail. (more…)
